EUROPEAN COLLABORATIVE JOURNALISM PROGRAMME (ECJP) 2024

EUROPEAN COLLABORATIVE   JOURNALISM PROGRAMME (ECJP) 2024

9–13 APR 2024 GUT SIGGEN, BALTIC SEA, NORTHERN GERMANY 30 MAY–2 JUNE 2024 EIJC & DATAHARVEST, MECHELEN, BELGIUM

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

ECJP brings you together with a group of about fifteen  journalists from all over Europe to motivate and enable  you to work collaboratively across borders and to form

a community of practice. The programme consists of  two parts:

Part 1

Meeting at the seminar centre Gut Siggen to: – get familiar with each other

– present and discuss your story ideas

– form research teams to jointly work on a story  – receive input from experts and peers

– exchange on your journalistic practice

Part 2

Meeting at the EIJC & Dataharvest conference to: – attend a broad variety of workshops, panels, debates – meet like-minded colleagues and experts from other  countries

– find other journalists to potentially team up with – follow up on your investigation started at Gut Siggen – strengthen network ties with your fellows

WHY COLLABORATE?

Many topics of public interest don’t stop at the borders.  Organised crime, issues of migration, exploitation  or pollution often span several countries. They are  complex, multi-faceted and resource-demanding  to research. Collaboration allows to pool resources  and expertise, to analyse facts and data jointly, to get

a deeper understanding of a story and to increase impact  by publishing in several media at the same time. It enables  to share the often highly demanding workload of an inves tigation and to provide mutual support in view of tight  schedules and challenging decisions how to go about.  Toepfer Foundation and Arena for Journalism therefore  joined hands to offer the ECJP in 2024 for the fifth time.

WHAT DOES IT ENTAIL?

Meeting at Gut Siggen (about 2h from Hamburg)  from 9 –13 April 2024:

– several inputs from experts

– working sessions in which you discuss and further  elaborate a story

– an “editorial meeting” to get feedback from experts  and peers

– travel fees to and from Gut Siggen/Baltic Sea incl.  four nights of accommodation and all meals

Meeting at the Dataharvest conference (about 30 min  from Brussels) from 30 May– 2 June 2024:

– catch up meeting and joint dinner at the pre-conference  day 30 May

– attendance of conference panels and workshops  according to your own interest

– occasion to further work on the investigation started  at Gut Siggen

– travel fees to and from the conference venue Mechelen  incl. three nights of accommodation, breakfast and  lunch
