THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS TO THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN EXTENDED TILL NOVEMBER 5, 2014. IN ADDITION, THE COMPETITION IS NOW OPEN TO STUDENTS OF JOURNALISM IN THEIR FINAL YEAR OF STUDIES. The Russian and East European Institute (REEI) of Indiana University (Bloomington, Indiana, USA) and the Regional Press Institute (RPI/Saint Petersburg, Russia) announce the US-Russia Journalism Teachers Exchange: Cross-Cultural Enhancements to Journalism Programs at Regional Institutions of Higher Education. The exchange will provide journalism instructors at post-secondary institutions in Russia and the United States with the opportunity to engage in professional development activities that will enhance their ability to train skilled journalists capable of thriving professionally and producing quality journalism in an increasingly globalized world.
Russian participants in the exchange will visit Indiana University (IU) individually for a two-week period of residence that will include: 1) visits to Indiana Daily Student, the IU student newspaper; 2) visits to the Herald-Times, Bloomington’s daily newspaper and a provider of internships in journalism to IU and local high school students; 3) visits to IU-affiliated local radio and television stations that provide internships in journalism to IU students; 4) meetings with journalism faculty and faculty in other units who share professional interests; 5) visits to IU and high school journalism classes; 6) presentations in a forum of their choosing to IU journalism faculty, IU journalism students, IU faculty with a research/teaching interest in contemporary Russia, IU students with a research interest in contemporary Russia, or any combination thereof. The individual visits will take place between November, 2014 and April, 2015. In addition, the Russian participants will meet with counterparts from US institutions at a joint conference to take place in Saint Petersburg in May, 2015. The conference will provide US and Russian participants a forum in which to share their views and experiences of the exchange and to lay the groundwork for programs of international collaboration among the institutions of higher learning represented.
For the two-week visit to Indiana University, the Russian and East European Institute will provide Russian participants with: 1) round-trip transportation between Saint Petersburg, Russia and Bloomington, Indiana; 2) lodging; 3) a per diem to offset the cost of meals.
